Four categories divided by age

Young Star

6-9 years old

1st Place: $500

Junior Virtuoso

10-13 years old

1st Place: $750


14-17 years old

1st Place: $1,000


18-22 years old

1st Place: $1,500

Award Tiers


Bronze, silver, and gold medalists will be awarded with cash prizes, performance opportunities. and a masterclass with a member of the jury. 

Gold: Cash prize of $1,500 USD maximum (see above for category specific prizes), live stream concert performance, private lesson with judge of choice

Silver: Live stream concert performance, private lesson with judge of choice

Bronze: Live stream concert performance, private lesson with judge of choice

Finalists and other participants: All finalists, other than the gold, silver, and bronze medalists, as announced by the BMI jury, will receive finalist certificates and trophies of recognition. Each participant who does not advance to the finalist level will receive a certificate of participation.




  • Instrument categories are violin, viola, cello. 

  • Participants must apply to their corresponding age category.

  • Application deadline: September 15th, 2024, 11:59 PM EST.

Audition Video Requirements:

  • Videos must be unedited. 

  • Piano accompaniments are required for pieces that are written to include an accompanist.

  • Applicants must be visible on the screen throughout the entire video. 

  • Each applicant is required to submit 2 contrasting pieces. Each video file should contain one piece.

  • The duration of each clip must not exceed 15 minutes.

Submission Requirements:

  • Clips are to be submitted as unlisted videos on Youtube, public videos on Youku, or emailed to

  • Each submission video must be titled according to the following listing format: 

    • Last Name, First Name, Submission Method, Piece

  • There is an $85 USD application fee payable through the application form.

  • If there is any discrepancy or ambiguity regarding requirements or eligibility for this competition, the provisions on this webpage will govern unless otherwise interpreted by BMI in writing.
